 about loni

Hi, I’m Loni Friedmann! I grew up in Elko, Nevada, where I was the only Deaf person my age in a mainstream school. I’m also the only Deaf person in my family. My mom was the one who stepped up—she learned sign language and became my biggest advocate, especially when it came to my education. Thanks to her support, I graduated with an advanced diploma and became the first in my family to graduate from both high school and college.

In 2011, I found out I’m DeafBlind. I’ll be honest—it took me a long time to accept it. I stayed in denial until 2019, when I finally started embracing this part of myself. That shift changed everything. In 2020, I started advocating for the Deaf and DeafBlind communities on Instagram.

The more I’ve learned about the inaccessibility and oppression the DeafBlind community faces—both from hearing and Deaf communities—the more driven I am to educate others. My goal is to break down the myths and stereotypes about DeafBlind people and to create more awareness about what inclusion really means.
